Links….the Final Frontier

Hey! We’re excited because “Star Trek” is finally coming out on DVD. We can’t believe we had to wait 5 months for it. This rapid turnover of movies nowadays is a far cry from when we grew up and movies came out on VHS about a year later. Usually the buzz of the movie had worn off by then and watching it again was almost a new experience unless you saw it a dozen times in the theater.

No streaming or torrents back in those days. Man, those days really sucked now that we think about it….

Titans Go From Bad To Worse

The Tennessee Titans may have officially hit rock bottom for the season.  The only good news  right now is that there’s no where to go but up. However, nobody wants to see their team perform like the Titans did Sunday at New England.

Already banged up and bruised in the secondary, the Titans “D” [or lack of] allowed Tom Brady to cruise into the record books by throwing 5 TD passes in one quarter as the Patriots flat-out embarrassed Tennessee to the tune of 59-0.

Wow!  It is really hard to put into words how painful it is as a fan to see your team be so uncompetitive.

Now we know what it’s like to be a Brown’s fan.

Vince Young

Coach, can I go make 'snow angels' now?

“I’m disappointed and embarrassed,” Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said. “Fortunately for me, career-wise, I have never been through anything like this before and, unfortunately, it happened tonight. I can assure you one thing, it’s not going to happen again.”

Five Reasons Tennessee Titans Keep Losing

What goes up must come down.

It’s no secret that our beloved Tennessee Titans have been trying to break out of their losing streak. After a stellar 13-3 season in 2008, the Titans have made a complete turnaround and started off the 2009 season with 5 straight loses.

Titans Cheerleaders still bring their "A" game

Since a first round loss to Baltimore in the 2008 playoffs, the Titans have yet to recover their winning ways. Missed opportunities, injuries and a lack of sizzle on offense now have the Titan’s looking down the barrel of a #1 draft pick instead of a playoff run as initially expected.

The only real issue at this point is whether there will be a QB switch between Collins and former first-round pick Vince Young. At least that gives us something to talk about in between thumpings on Sundays.

At this point in the season the Titans share a 0-5 record with Kansas City for the worst record in the AFC and that just downright sucks. No one wants to be compared to the Chiefs. It’s hard to believe it’s gotten that bad…

Here’s a few reasons why that might be…

5) Kerry Collins new pregame ritual of watching “Hannah Montana” episodes with Billy Ray Cyrus not as inspirational as he thinks it is.

4) LenDale White stops drinking booze, loses 30 lbs.
Titans start 2009 season, lose 5 straight games.
Coincidence…?  We think not.

3) Alge Crumpler keeps eating the footballs during practice, making it very difficult to run drills.

2) Owner purposely trying to tank season in effort to move team to Cleveland, which has been without a professional football team since the Browns moved to Baltimore in 1996.

Steve McNair Dead

mcnairThe wave of celebrity deaths continues with a loss that’s closer to home. Our Tennessee Titans lost retired QB Steve McNair this weekend after he was found shot 4 times in his Nashville residence. Authorities also found a woman shot to death in the apartment.

McNair is married with 4 children but the various news reports have the dead woman listed as Sahel Kazemi and she may have been Steve’s girlfriend. Speculation also revolves around whether Sahel killed McNair than turned the gun on herself.

Asked whether the shooting was a murder-suicide, Don Aaron, spokesman for the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, said investigators have not classified the incident . He said investigators have not ruled out anything but added that they were not “actively looking at suspects” Saturday night.

“I suspect we’ll have something to say tomorrow,” Aaron said.

The bodies were found just two days after Kazemi was pulled over in a Cadillac Escalade, registered to her and McNair, and charged with a DUI, Aaron said. McNair was in the vehicle at the time.

Although Aaron described Kazemi as McNair’s “friend,” a law enforcement source close to the investigation said that the woman is McNair’s girlfriend and that the residence is her condominium in downtown Nashville.

Witnesses said McNair was a frequent visitor at the condominium.

Authorities were questioning people who were near the home, but they said no one was in custody.

We will always remember McNair for his gutsy play and great leadership on the field including the now famous Super Bowl XXXIV against St. Louis in which McNair drove the Titans down the field and were 1 yard short of a tie.

After the Titans/Jags game Sunday we had the joy of listening to the Jacksonville announcers after the game on our Sirius radio and catch them wondering what just happened to their team. We love how many people still underestimate the Titans. Maybe if the Titans were flashy or had players in the gossip columns each week they might pay more attention.

Kerry Collins threw three touchdown passes, Albert Haynesworth dominated defensively again and the Titans improved to 10-0 with a 24-14 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday.

Tennessee overcame a 14-3 halftime deficit, got solid play from third-string cornerback Chris Carr and extended its franchise-record winning streak in the regular season to 13.

Kerry Collins is starting to get pass happy as opposing teams focus on the Titans run. Tennessee did not get a rushing TD but did get 3 receiving TDs.  Going into the Bears game last week, Collins only had 3 TDs on the year.  He’s tossed for 5 in the last 2 games both times going over 200+ yards, something he had not done up until that point.

The Titans D-line also held strong without monster end Kyle Vanden Bosch who has seen limited action since week 5.  Vanden Bosch may be on the sidelines until his groin injury is 100%.  It looks like the Titans are not risking taking him in too early and want him healthy for the playoffs.  A solid move since the D-line has proven to still be great without him.

Take a look at the rest of the Titans schedule to see how they will do in going undefeated for the year.

The last 2 games look difficult especially with the Colts heating up. But how could you not look at the next 3 games as a great break before the playoffs?

Key Points:

  • The Jags led 14-3 at halftime
  • Kerry Collins threw for his 2nd straight (and 2nd on the season) 200+ yard game
  • Jacksonville set a franchise record with 10 punts
  • Justin Gage had 147 yds receiving and 2 TDs
  • RB’s White and Johnson were held to 0 TDs
