Will “Kick Ass” Really Kick Ass?

Coming to theaters this April is the comic book inspired film Kick Ass. On initial viewing of the theatrical trailer, one may be inclined to think that the movie looks very much like a Nickelodeon/Disney tween actioner similar to a Sky High. But don’t let that fool you. If you look closer, you may notice that the film is actually rated R and not something to let your teen just run off to all willy nilly. Also upon a brief examination of the internets, one can find the R-rated trailer that has been released and a clip from the movie of Nicholas Cage shooting his daughter. (Both of which are below to save you that search) The former provides plenty of blood, language and action in the form of a 12 year old vigilante called Hit Girl and the latter showcases a dysfunctional family dynamic and sets a darkly comedic tone.

So what does this mean as far as the watchability of the film is concerned?

Well the tween action/comedy not really worth checking out that the theatrical trailer makes it look like, it is not. A hyper-violent superhero action film , painted in blood splatters and highlighted with darkly comedic moments, that may just be worth a pop into the ol’ theatre, it just may be.

What is known for sure is that the film is produced by Tyler Durden’s company Plan B Entertainment, and we all know Tyler’s always right (Right?); It’s also being directed by Matthew Vaughn whose previous two directorial efforts are the Neil Gaiman inspired “Stardust” and the British crime tale known as “Layer Cake”. Oddly enough “Kick Ass” fits into his list of directorial credentials quite nicely, as it appears to be an odd conglomeration of both his previous movies’ styles, with a couple of injections of adrenaline mixed in for flavor. Add to this the comic book source material was penned by Mark Millar, whose comic book highlights include: Superman: Red Son, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Wanted and Marvel Knights Spider-Man; and you got the possibility of a film that may actually kick some ass.

Classy Google Super Bowl Commercial

For years, Google was enjoying the silence when it came to mainstream advertising on television. Google claimed for years that their products, not advertising, is what made them better than the competition.

Times have changed. If the New Orleans Saints (once the model of failure in the NFL) can reach and win the Super Bowl than why can’t Google run an ad on TV. Stranger things have happened….

If you’re only going to do it once, might as well be during the one time of year you have the most eyes on the Television set. The Google Super Bowl ad is called “Parisian Love” and was actually made and released online back in November as part of Google’s ‘Search Stories’ series of videos.

While most commercials are trying to tell a joke, Google is trying to tell a story.

Kia’s odd Super Bowl Commercial featured a crazy cast of odd creatures having fun around town. What stood out for us is the great Sock Monkey who grabs a jet ski and takes on the mechanical bull at a bar. Sock Monkey FTW!

Bud Light Hit and Miss Super Bowl Commercials

Bud Light provide 4 funny Super Bowl Commercials this year and 2 of them had LOST twists. The first one about scientists and an Asteroid features Dr. Marvin Candle from the Dharma Initiative. The other one is more of a direct reference with a group of people stranded on an island with only their Bud Light to keep them alive.

Overall, the batch of ads were enjoyable. Nothing fantastic but enough to get a laugh out of them.

Denny’s aired a trio of quirky Super Bowl Commercials aimed at promoting a free Grand Slam breakfast this Tuesday from 6am to 2pm and a free Grand Slam breakfast on your birthday. The monotone dude announcing the deal we could do without. The chorus of screaming chickens realizing they must make a ton of eggs is awesome!

The other 2 commercials feature chickens freaking out and that made our day. We don’t have a Denny’s close to us so the deal doesn’t matter to us. We just love the chickens.

Griswolds new Super Bowl Hotel Hell Vacation mini-movie

During the Super Bowl commercials you’ll be seeing a new promotion featuring the Griswold’s from the great Vacation movies.

Before you get a little too excited about a new Vacation movie- [there is one, just not what you think] you should know that Clark and Ellen Griswold are back and on the road.

This time they are visiting their son but the movie is actually a promotion for Home Away, a property rental agency for your vacations. Think of it as one of those Time-share deals and instead of having to sit through a boring 30-minute lecture you get to watch the Griswold’s.

OK. That actually works. Good idea.

We love the Griswold’s.

So the movie is a mini-movie featuring the characters from Vacation. It runs 15 minutes [see below] and features Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo and a replica of the original Family Truckster. Ride along as The Griswold’s hit the road again. This time they’re on their way to see Rusty at his vacation rental. They stop at a hotel and typical Griswold madness ensues.

This is not the first time that the great animated show The Simpson’s have hawked a product and we doubt it’s the last. This time around the gang from Springfield are promoting Coke and after Mr. Burns loses millions of $’s in the bad economy the only thing that will cheer him up is Coke.

Banned Super Bowl Ad Mancrunch

Mancrunch.com, the ‘alternative’ dating site, had their ad rejected by CBS for airing during the Super Bowl. This brought up some controversy since CBS did green light a pro-life commercial featuring Tim Tebow.

However, we think it got banned because it really ripped off a great Mad TV skit from years back. Yeah, we couldn’t resist. Both videos below….

Budweiser Clydesdales Super Bowl Ad – Fences

Budweiser will air over 5 minutes of commercials during the Super Bowl including this one bringing back the famous Budweiser Clydesdale’s, which were originally not in the lineup. After the commercials for the horses were ommited from the game, the reaction prompted Anheuser-Busch to reconsider.

The company put it up on Facebook and asked the public to vote on whether it should run during the Super Bowl. The public said “yes.”

This short ad features the horses and a steer in what’s titled “Fences.”

Are you ready for some more Avatar?

Thanks to James Cameron, the world of Avatar consists of big, blue monkey cats. Some might remember another Avatar, though.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a wildly popular show on Nickelodeon in 2005 and is now coming to the big screen. Due to the other “Avatar,” this version will go by its maiden name so look out for The Last Airbender in theaters July.

M. Night Shyamalan will direct. Below the The Last Airbender trailer are 2 new posters for the film as well.

Best Super Bowl Commercial Ever? CareerBuilder.com Lighting Farts

We’re not gonna lie to you. It’s gonna be hard for any commercial that airs during this years Super Bowl to knock Worst Seat out of our #1 favorite throne. In fact, it’s already in our Top 10 of all time.

The other 2 CB commercials this year, the Job Fairy and Casual Friday, are good but this one is great!

You see, it’s a commercial about a dude in a cubicle lighting his farts on fire. Brilliant! The boss swings by and does not punish the farter for goofing off but helps him out.

While the lady in the middle of the 2 goofballs seems like it’s the worst job ever, we’re actually wondering if CareerBuilder can help us land this job. We want to work there. Doesn’t matter what they do. This is our dream job.

We love Super Bowl time for all the great commercials. We have found that the CareerBuilder.com commercials to be the most fun this year. They have created 3 ads for the Super Bowl which we have heard they will only air two.

There’s the Job Fairy, Causal Friday, and Worst Seat, which is our favorite. Mainly because we’re the type of people to light our own farts.

Casual Friday is an institution at some work places but if you’re working in a place with this type of Casual Friday we feel sorry for you. Although, we did expect that last dude to ask, “Who wants a mustache ride?”

As we are cycling through the Super Bowl Commercials this year we have found that the CareerBuilder.com commercials to be the most fun. They have created 3 ads for the Super Bowl which we have heard they will only air two.

There’s the Job Fairy, Casual Friday, and Worst Seat, which is our favorite. Mainly because we’re the type of people to light our own farts.

The Job Fairy CareerBuilder.com commercial points out that the Job Fairy is not very good at his job. He’s probably the same dude who gave advice to the Rock to star in the Tooth Fairy.

Google May Have A Super Bowl Commercial

Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google, has given us a juicy bit of news about a forthcoming Google Super Bowl commercial during the game Sunday.

Normally, Google stays away from traditional advertising of this sort. Recently the Google has launched aggressive new ventures like web browsers [Google Chrome] and it’s very own cell phone [Google Nexus One] that may need some extra attention

So we’re guessing that when Eric Schmidt says this:

Can’t wait to watch the Superbowl tomorrow. Be sure to watch the ads in the 3rd quarter (someone said “Hell has indeed frozen over.”)

…that we can expect something new from Google.

Our guess is a commercial touting the Nexus One cell phone.

Even though Google provides the Android operating system for the Droid cell phones, it relies on the carriers and manufacturers to advertise those products. That just leaves Chrome and Nexus One.

The Nexus One is Google’s toy. If it’s going to go after the Apple iPhone, they’re gonna need more muscle and a Super Bowl spot might help lift disappointing sales numbers. And advertising the Chrome browser seems a little wasteful.

The other option is something new from Google like the Chrome OS. Ehh….probably not.
