Band members were fighting. I don’t know the name of the band. I wish I could tell you it was Nickelback. It’s probably not important anyway but what is important is that the guitarist is now working on a solo project. I’m sure it will be good.

For anyone that has ever read a story about Winehouse in the last 5 years you knew she struggled with substance abuse so the surprise isn’t so much there as sadness that she (or her friends) couldn’t help the singer kick the bad habits.

So we’re all guessing at this point it will be the drugs that did her in and it will be interesting to see the autopsy report.

Winehouse has as only two albums into her career but “Back to Black” album racked up about every award possible and helped make the soulful, bluesy style of her deep and sultry voice a hip item.

The years after “Back to Black” brought a very public decline. Her performances were erratic or much worse. She planned and canceled tours, went in and out of hospitals. Photos and videos showed her stumbling, bleeding and apparently taking drugs. With her boyfriend and then husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who served jail time for attacking a pub landlord, Ms. Winehouse shared drug benders and never made it through rehab. The long, pathetic spectacle brought joy only to the jackals of the British tabloids, which sneered in big headlines at each new downturn.

But her self-destruction was a deep loss to listeners. Ms. Winehouse was no manufactured pop commodity. She was a genuine musician: one of the very small handful of British singers whose version of American soul music had a gutsiness and flair far beyond what could be studied.

You’re either going to love it or hate it, depending on your view of Chester’s vocals on the song. Don’t see many people settling in the middle.

At the iTunes Festival style, the band belted out this surprise cover of the epic ballad and joined the big list of artists brave enough to tackle Adele. The song comes from Adele’s newest album, “21,” which just also happens to be one of the biggest albums of the year.

“21″ has moved 2,517,000 copies in the U.S. since its release on Feb. 22 — through the week ending July 3, the mid-point of the tracking year. It’s the only album to have sold more than 2 million in 2011, and one of only two to surpass 1 million.

It will also be included on the game’s soundtrack due out October 12, 2010. Bearded Clam. Awesome!

The middle of June always marks the annual trip of music fans to Manchester, Tennessee, to join in the fun of the Bonnaroo Music Festival. Thomas volunteered to head down there this year (again) to cover the events for the site with our good pal Uncle Randy. Here’s his report:

The weather was expected to be nasty with thunderstorms in the area which didn’t quite pan out but the weather was very muggy. Most of the first day, once we got out of traffic which took hours to go the last few miles. On the way we saw the coolest thing as a dude was on the side of the road selling BBQ out of his smoker made from kegs. So cool.

We spent most of the afternoon settling in and getting the tent pitched up. The best part, however, is our VIP tickets got us free meals and free beer which we took full advantage of let me tell you.

After that we hit up the great guys from Adult Swim to play free carnival games, Adult Swim style, and a chance to win some swag.

As expected, lots of interesting personalities at Bonnaroo. And I’ve included a picture of what I like to call the hippie showers, or as they call it here the Bonnaroo fountain. It’s running clear water right now but will probably be a little foul after the weekend. Let’s just say there aren’t too many bars of soap here. Or deodorant sticks….

Gonna try to catch Margaret Cho in the comedy tent tonight if we get tickets, and plan on catching The xx perform. Our tent neighbors, or our Roo neighbors as we like to call them, are pretty cool.

Our “Office” radar blipped out of control when we heard that there was a mashup of the rapper Lil’ Wayne and the theme song to the fantastic “Office” television show.  Rapper Lil’ Wayne joins the music from the show with a few sound bites from characters to meld one sweet song.
