Jaws meets the Big Lebowski, our generation’s finest movie.

Trees in 3D, you say?  You bet.

I’m not the biggest fan of 3D but A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas was easily the best movie I’ve seen in years in the format since Avatar because most 3D pictures are too scared to do the things Harold and Kumar would do and make them pop out of the screen.

That means lots of smoke, women’s jiggly parts, Claymation, beer pong and various WTF’s jumping off the screen.

And Neil Patrick Harris. It just wouldn’t be a Harold and Kumar trip if they didn’t run into one of our favorite actors.

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas is finally out on Blu-Ray and DVD.  This Tuesday you will be able to get MISTLE-TOASTED with the release of A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas on Blu-Ray. It comes in the 3D combo pack as well as the 2D combo pack.

Both combo packs include the regular DVD with optional Digital download so you can view the movie on your personal devices like the iPhone or your laptop. Sweet!

So we had the awesome privilege via the cool folks at Warner Bros. Video  to grab a copy of A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas early and check out the special features.  I love my job!

The “Extra Dope Edition” of the movie includes some fun features including extended cuts and deleted scenes.  Plus there’s “Through the Haze with Tom Lennon” and a video showing how the producers brought the Harold and Kumar Claymation to life.

Yes, there’s Claymation!  It’s the second best part of the film right after H&K meet up with the Legendary Neil Patrick Harris.

The fantastic star of CBS’s How I Met Your Mother is required to make a Harold and Kumar movie, right?

But just how did the get NPH to return to the third movie when he was killed in a bloody shootout at that chicken ranch in Texas?

Well, there’s actually a good reason that Neil is back. We won’t ruin that surprise for you (you’ll have to watch the movie) but let’s just say NPH is back and better then before. Check out this clip from A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas featuring the first meeting of H&K with Neil.

I suspect a sneaky ad campaign of some kind here.  I mean, seeing the Griswold’s back for a Vacation reunion was fun but just not the real thing.

Now some people think that the Ferris Bueller world might be a bit too complex to make a sequel.   But I think they can do it despite the fact that Ferris is now like 60 years old and has gray hair.  We’ll know soon enough as the reality will be revealed on Super Bowl Sunday (that’s Feb. 5, non-football fans!).

Check out the quick teaser below which is tabbed as a Super Bowl ad. For what, we don’t know. Maybe the Chicago Board of Tourism or Abe Froman finally opened up that chain of restaurants.  The more I think about it the more I think I’m going to be disappointed.

If this is an ad for a hotel chain I’m going to riot.

In the movie Next, Nic Cage has the ability to see a tiny bit into the future. He cannot, however, see how bad his hair is.

Steelers Big Ben Rapistburger, Willie Colon, James Farrior, Bill Cowher, Troy Polamalu and Maurkice Pouncey are just some of the players in the movie playing as the Gotham City Rogues.  And in the movie trailer you’ll see some big screen time by Hines Ward, who proves he’s just as good in the movies as he is in the postseason as he outruns a series of explosions that destroy the field.

Due out in theaters this summer, The Dark Knight Rises features a sexy Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.  Let’s take a moment to reflect on that.  Back in the day it was Michelle Pfeiffer who filled in the sexy, tight outfit for the movie versions of Batman.

It’s hard to believe that it will be 20 years between the two ladies appearing as Catwoman.  That means Anne Hathaway was only 10 years old at the time.  I wasn’t much older at the time but man, that just makes me feel old!

So after the Tim Burton versions of Batman and that middle wave of Joel Schumacher disasters, the Batman franchise has been successfully raised by Christopher Nolan, who has directed the last 3 including this new one. It’s sad to see them end as Nolan did a terrific job at recreating the franchise.

But after watching the latest M:I 4 movie, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, I couldn’t help but notice that Apple and their products of iPads, Iphones and laptops were a bit more ‘in your face‘ than usual. Normally, you see the branded items here and there. Maybe someone picks op a phone or surfs the web. But in M:I 4 we see a ton of Apple products.

The movie publicly teamed up with BMW to showcase the new BMW i8 and 6 Series convertible. The cars in the movies are almost all BMW’s and the new techno-friendly i8 Series has already popped out this commercial.  And apparently everyone in India owns a BWM. I can’t vouche for that. I just guessed it from the movie even though I though everyone owned a Tata.

Hee, not really.  I just like saying Tata.

Anyway, I can understand that BMW would pony up some ad space and promote a new cutting-edge product. The I:M 4 crew is just trying to make some money to offset the cost of the huge production of a major blockbuster movie.

And it’s a sweet looking car, that’s for sure.

I can say that the movie and the cars also look pretty good in IMAX. A few scenes stand out as being well shot in the IMAX format including the Dubai scene where Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) scales the side of the world’s largest skyscraper.  It’s dizzying to say the least so take a few Dramamine with you if you get easily startled by heights.

But there’s something off with the odd amount of iPhones and iPads in the movie. You won’t see a product tie-in or commercial like for BMW but the Apple products are everywhere!  There are several scenes where 3-4 Apple products including iPhones and iPads are being handled and shown. It’s blatant enough that several people in the theater took note. Usually, Apple is more discrete with their product placement.

And don’t get me started on the MacBooks.

Apple must have paid out the yang for the blatant product placement in the movie because apparently you can’t be a super, secret IMF agent without an iPhone.

Oh yeah, all the good guys use Apple products which should make the fanboys happy. Somehow the spies are able to use their iPads to power holographic screens and their iPhones to hack security cameras but I still can’t get reception in downtown Manhattan or even around town here in Knoxville. Go figure…

Can you hear me now?

Maybe it’s just AT&T hampering me. I could be doing all kinds of funky things with my stuff if I had the right network, right? That’s what is holding me back. I could scale the Sunsphere or hack into the local power grid with my phone and iPad if I were on Verizon maybe…

I’m not sure. I still haven’t found that ‘reroute security camera’ App yet.

I’m sure it’s there and even though they probably put up a free version, I bet it has stupid ads that pop up at the wrong time. I think I’d pony up for the paid one without ads.

I did note one Droid in the movie. It wasn’t labeled and not obvious but when Tom Cruise is tracking a briefcase through a sandstorm in Dubai (Ethan Hunt scaling the tower in IMAX is awesome, BTW!) he does appear to have a non-apple product.

Maybe that’s because he’s using custom software and no one at Apple has approved an App for tracking low-level irradiated nuclear documents. Give it time, though.

In the end the movie was a fun action movie but I will say if nothing else go check it out in IMAX to see Paula Patton’s boobs (top of post) on the big screen. It’s worth it just for that.

Shark Song is a mash-up of the great blockbuster movies Jaws as if it were made by the friendly folks at Disney and it is super awesome.  Chief Martin Brody isn’t after a shark that terrorizing his beach this time.

I won’t ruin the surprise but if it helps I recommend having a glass of water nearby and take a sip so when you find out what the shark does in this new movie you will spray water out everywhere.

But if you think you know this movie you might be wrong. Firefly creator Joss Whedon and Cloverfield’s Drew Goddard have twisted the formulaic horror movie about teens with hyperactive hormones in the woods.  In a cabin to be exact.

“The Cabin in the Woods” hints at being a mind blowing horror film that twists the generic genre around.

Interesting. The kids check into a cabin in the woods just like it would happen in Hollywood land. Except….there’s a bit something different going on here. What is the cabin? It looks like a mix of The Matrix and Nightmare on Elm Street.

The long delayed movie should hit theaters this coming April.

Folks, this happened. It’s real and it’s awesome and my head almost exploded.  Someone is a genius and needs to be awarded the highest prize available.

The Old Murder House Theatre in Austin, Texas, is now my favorite bunch of guys and gals. That’s because they put on the epic “James Cameron’s Aliens…On Ice!”

See the James Cameron classic performed live like you’ve never seen before. Epic.

Like their live productions before (See also: Die Hard, Jurassic Park, Robocop), OMHT spared some expenses in favor of more ingenious, vulnerable prop creations – an element that always strikes a sweet deal with the unadulterated hilarity of fate. Note a key fact that none of these guys could skate two weeks prior and unforeseeable events such as the yellow power loader comprised of cardboard and PVC tipping over during the crucial Ripley vs. Alien Queen battle scene as the audience roars. If you thought that you have seen the movie Total Recall staring Arnold Schwarzenegger just know you haven’t seen anything until you have seen it with the DVD Commentary with Arnie explaining all the intricate details that everyone surely missed.

Listening to audio commentaries is awesome because a lot of the time they can give you interesting insights from actors and directors about on what goes on behind the scenes. Other times, such as this, someone will completely miss the purpose of an audio commentary.

In fact, Stevie is apparently too good to do them for any of his movies. Shame, too, because he’s a great filmmaker who could really pass on some cool facts and wisdom on the creation of his art.

Thankfully, there’s Jamie Benning who collected a ton a audio and other clips and facts from the movie to make his own.

Raiding the Lost Ark tackles the making of the first “Indiana Jones” picture by splicing old interviews and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” footage into a 17-minute mini-movie. Great stuff for film freaks and I can’t wait for the rest.

This is a little insight into the making of the 1981 collaboration between Spielberg and Lucas. This fan-made “Filmumentary” contains behind the scenes video, rare interviews with cast and crew, reconstructed deleted scenes and subtitled facts. Enjoy!!

But then someone with a keen eye noticed this little gem. In The Lion King there’s a nice quip from Zazu the bird about Scar, the evil brother of Mufasa.

It’s cool because after someone combed through the Disney movie library they found this clip from Hercules with a nice reference to the great Lion King. Nice.

Leonardo DiCaprio got made up to look old in “J. Edgar”, can you tell?

Well, the Internet has done it again. Just when you’ve think you’ve seen it all something pops its head up and says ‘Look at me!’

You may have noticed a few weeks back in movie theaters a horror movie called ‘The Thing’ showing up.  This isn’t a remake but instead this will be a prequel to ‘John Carpenter’s The Thing’, the 80s version that is a remake of the 50s classic.

So if you’ve seen ‘John Carpenter’s The Thing’ you’ll be set up nicely because it’s kinda the same thing just told before Kurt Russell and his epic man-beard snuggled up with Keith David (or was it David Keith?) to stay warm in the Antarctic night as Wilford Brimley went around and tossed hot oatmeal in peoples faces.

Thankfully, Jon Kaplan and Al Kaplan, the guys who brought us the genius Conan the Barbarian: The Musical and Commando: The Musical, have chopped up the second original ‘The Thing’ and tossed in a Sinatra soundtrack to make the epic ‘John Carpenter’s THE THING: THE MUSICAL’
