If you want to hurt a mass group of people there has to be a more humane way to pull it off.

The first one was just horrid but that’s what you get when you sign Mark Steven Johnson, the U.S.’s answer to Uwe Boll, to direct.

‘Ghost Rider’ wasn’t as bad as Johnson’s ‘Dare Devil’, a movie that makes all my body parts scream in pain whenever it airs, but it sucked pretty hard. Wisely, they retooled the crew and tried to bring out a little bit of fun and action this time around.

And whether or not the sequel is good or bad it will always be awesome for the last 10 seconds of this trailer. I can’t spoil it for you but it’s awesome and answers a long-time question I had about Johnny Blaze.

I mean, I don’t want to jinx it but did they just make a Nic Cage movie I would actually watch in the theaters…?

A neat little short film called Pixels hit the internets about a month ago. If you missed it, it’s about classic 8-bit characters breaking out into the real world and wreaking havoc. Some of the notable characters making an appearance were Donkey Kong, Pac Man, and Frogger. Yeah, we know, sounds cool. Looks cool too.

Well Adam Sandler thinks the idea has merit beyond the internet. His production company, Happy Madison is looking into bringing the short film to the big screen. They’re working with the film’s creator, French filmmaker Patrick Jean, to adapt the idea into a feature-length action comedy.

Now, is there enough of an idea to turn two-and-a-half minutes into about 90 minutes? Possibly. It will be interesting to see how it develops.

But then again, since it is just starting the development stage, it’s just as likely the film could disappear. We’ll see.

For now we do have the short and that’s something at least. Enjoy.

Somewhat lost in the hype of JJ Abram’s Super 8 trailer, was the new extended trailer for Christopher Nolan’s mind bending neo-noir, Inception. Luckily, unlike the previous trailers which have basically been visually stimulating teasers, the new trailer seems to verify that the movie does indeed have a plot and is not just a lot of cool dream imagery. We’re just still a little unsure of what that plot exactly is.

It appears that Leonardo DiCaprio and his inception team are in the business of slipping into people’s dreams all Dreamscape like and stealing their secrets while they sleep. Also, DiCaprio may or may not be on his last job to get home or something? What happens beyond that is still mostly a mystery, but one thing is for sure, it looks cool.

So enjoy the trailer and try to wrap your noodle around the movie that is Inception. For those of you who are a little wary of a movie about dreams, don’t worry, these dreams don’t seem to come with snake head monsters or crispy pedophiles in need of a manicure.

A couple of days ago, we mentioned that the trailer for JJ Abrams’ new movie Super 8 would be making a surprise premiere before the Iron Man 2 movie. Since then we’ve had a chance to check out the trailer ourselves and have learned a thing or two.

First, we’ve learned that it isn’t a Cloverfield sequel/prequel but is indeed the Abrams and Spielburg collaboration that has been rumored to be brewing. Yes, you heard correctly, two of Hollywood’s titans of sci-fi are teaming up to bring us an alien movie.

Which brings us to the second thing we’ve learned. It’s an alien movie!

At least that is judging from the trailer that is now online. It has kind of an Encounters of the Third Kind on cocaine vibe, and an Area 51 reference. Screams aliens to us.

This also seems to support the rumor that Abrams would make the film as much an homage to the Spielburg films of the 70′s & 80′s as it is a collaboration with the great director. So will it be more ET or Close Encounters? Maybe a little Jaws thrown in for flavor?

We know the hype and speculation on this film is just beginning, but we’re already looking forward to finding out more. Enjoy the trailer.

It looks like everybody’s favorite British secret agent with a license to kill may have fallen on hard times. Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the Bond franchise, have announced that development on the next Bond film has been suspended indefinitely. The yet unnamed film would have been the 23rd in the series.

The suspension comes as a result of MGM’s continuing financial difficulties and inability to sell the studio. Hopefully, if development continues, there will be enough money allocated to the production of the new Bond film to maintain the high standards viewers have come to expect. We hate to imagine Bond having to adhere to a shoestring budget.

Need more testosterone in your diet? Well thank god for you The Expendables are here to help.

The Expendables is a new action flick written by Sylvester Stallone, directed by Sylvester Stallone and starring Sylvester Stallone…along with about every action star who’s made a movie in the past 20 years. We’re not joking. The credits read like a who’s who of beat’ em up guys, for example: Jason Statham, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Arnold Swcharzenegger, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Gary Daniels, Danny Trejo, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Steve Austin.

Should we go on? It’s insane.

The plot of the movie seems to center around a group of mercenaries who infiltrate South America and kick an alien Predator’s ass. No, wait a minute that’s wrong. They’re actually just down there to over throw some dictator, sorry about that.

But really, who cares. With a cast of action heroes like they’ve assembled, the script could just be the words kick, punch, bang-bang and BOOM repeated over and over and we would still show up to check it out. Seriously, too much plot in a movie like this could ruin it. It’s kinda one of those less is more situations.

So check out the trailer below. Get yourself a fresh dose of testosterone. Then go punch someone.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlburg would like you to meet The Other Guys. It’s their new movie about two bad ass cops who protect the city and win the hearts and minds of the masses. Unfortunately Ferrell and Wahlburg are not “those guys”, they’re the “Other Guys”. Get it?
Well anywho…the movie looks like it could be decently funny, although we’re not really expecting many side splitting moments. It seems to be a pretty standard Will Ferrell Hollywood film, but we could be wrong about that, it’s still early (and by wrong, we mean in either direction, good or bad). But go ahead and check out the trailer, you know you want to. We’ve also included a clip of Cool Guys Don’t Look at Explosions beneath it, you’ll get it after you watch the trailer. We hope you enjoy, and thanks for reading our blog today, we appreciate it. Say hey to your mother.

For those of you who don’t know what the series is about yet, it’s a movie review show that takes place completely in a bathroom or, as the title explains, “in the can”. In this episode the hosts Neal & Doug take a moment to relax and review the Brendan Fraser and Harrison Ford movie Extraordinary Measures. You should also take a moment and check out their Avatar and Tooth Fairy reviews.
Coming to theaters this April is the comic book inspired film Kick Ass. On initial viewing of the theatrical trailer, one may be inclined to think that the movie looks very much like a Nickelodeon/Disney tween actioner similar to a Sky High. But don’t let that fool you. If you look closer, you may notice that the film is actually rated R and not something to let your teen just run off to all willy nilly. Also upon a brief examination of the internets, one can find the R-rated trailer that has been released and a clip from the movie of Nicholas Cage shooting his daughter. (Both of which are below to save you that search) The former provides plenty of blood, language and action in the form of a 12 year old vigilante called Hit Girl and the latter showcases a dysfunctional family dynamic and sets a darkly comedic tone.

So what does this mean as far as the watchability of the film is concerned?

Well the tween action/comedy not really worth checking out that the theatrical trailer makes it look like, it is not. A hyper-violent superhero action film , painted in blood splatters and highlighted with darkly comedic moments, that may just be worth a pop into the ol’ theatre, it just may be.

What is known for sure is that the film is produced by Tyler Durden’s company Plan B Entertainment, and we all know Tyler’s always right (Right?); It’s also being directed by Matthew Vaughn whose previous two directorial efforts are the Neil Gaiman inspired “Stardust” and the British crime tale known as “Layer Cake”. Oddly enough “Kick Ass” fits into his list of directorial credentials quite nicely, as it appears to be an odd conglomeration of both his previous movies’ styles, with a couple of injections of adrenaline mixed in for flavor. Add to this the comic book source material was penned by Mark Millar, whose comic book highlights include: Superman: Red Son, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Wanted and Marvel Knights Spider-Man; and you got the possibility of a film that may actually kick some ass.

It’s almost that time in Oak Ridge, TN again. The Secret City Film Fest is set to start this weekend. Filmmakers will gather, movies will be shown, viewers will “ooh and ahhh” in the appropriate places (usually), and a layer of B.S. will cover the floors as filmmakers and film fans mingle and discuss their projects, both past and future. It’s one of the funnest events in all of East Tennessee, and you know Dave and Thomas are going to be there.

In fact, Dave and Thomas enjoy the festival so much, this year they are sponsoring a reception with their buddies, the Juvenile Minds. This quasi-prestigious event will follow a special screening of the award winning, East Tennessee produced film, That Evening Sun, on Friday the 9th. So feel free to join Dave and Thomas for barbecue and beer at the Secret City Film Fest and if you don’t care for D&T check out the other events at the festival. There are many films, panels, workshops and events at the festival that are worth checking out. For more information on the Secret City Film Festival check out their website.

If you’re interested in winning a couple of free all-festival passes, check out the Dave and Thomas SCFF competition.
