Will our economy bounce back? Will vampire movies still be run into the ground? Will Tiger Woods recover? These are just some of the things on our mind as we take a look back at some of the best and worst of 2009 and reflect.

Maybe it’s the moonshine, but we’re feeling a little nostalgic.

We’d like to point out that the movie 2010 with Roy Scheider was full of crap.  We are no where near the ability to cruise around the moons of Jupiter much less have crazy-ass computers going on killing sprees or have the technology to give John Lithgow a full head of hair.

It’s all a crock!

Since we can’t go into space or fly around the city in our hovercar or personal jet pack, we are forced to stay here on Earth and take the best that society has to offer.  And by society we mean the Internet.  Pop culture had a big year in 2009 and here’s some of the highlights over the last 12 months.

Lemaricus Davidson, the alleged ringleader of the torture/slaying of Channon Christian and Hugh Christopher Newsom, will have one more night to sleep wondering if he will get the death penalty

We highly doubt a person that partook in these events has much of a conscience to worry about at this point so he’s probably sleeping OK.   He showed little sign of emotion as the trial took place in Knoxville over the last few weeks and which was followed closely by the local media as well as concerned people via TV and online media streams.

Twitter has help keep Knoxville updated on the trial via searching for the #cntrial term.  We followed along and noticed that some media outlets, notably WATE’s Gene Patterson and Knox News’ Jamie Satterfield,  utilized the power of Twitter this way while others outlets fell by the wayside.

In all, 46 counts were brought against Davidson which meant not whether the broke, drug dealer was going to jail, but rather how long and would he get the death penalty.

There's a special place in Hell for you, Davidson

A jury from Knox County [7 men and 5 women] did what a jury bused in from Davidson County could not with Davidson’s half-brother Letalvis Cobbins. They found the man guilty on all the counts most notably those that would be eligible for a death penalty.

Letalvis Cobbins, Davidson’s half-brother, is currently serving life without parole in western Tennessee as he was the first of 4 people charged with the deaths of Newsom and Christian.  A fifth member, Eric DeWayne “E” Boyd, was arrested in connection with the fatal carjacking, though not indicted by the Knox County grand jury, and is serving 18 years in a Federal Jail.

Boyd was the only member not tried for murder in the events.

Lemaricus Devall Davidson was found guilty on all counts. He was found not guilty on three counts of the aggravated rape of Christopher Newsom but was found guilty of the lesser included charges of facilitation of rape.

The next phase of the case will decide the fate of Davidson. The jury will decide which sentence he will face. The choices are life in prison, life in prison without possibility of parole, and the death penalty.

The defense in the case had little to work with in Lemaricus Davidson.  He was highly involved in the crimes and multiple witnesses and DNA evidence painted a disgusting picture of an inhuman act of rage followed by days of lying.

Even though Davidson chose not to take the stand  his interrogation by the KPD recorded on tape were damaging.  In those tapes Davidson repeatedly explained that his brother and friends were responsible.

The defense grasped at some straws and negatively tried to portray Newsom and Christian as ignorant, drug-using kids bouncing around Davidson’s pad looking for some drugs for a party.  They even tried to claim ‘consensual’ sex at one point which did not go over well with the prosecution.

However, the DNA does not lie.

Davidson was dressed up for the jury in glasses, a sweater and collared shirt which one witness claimed was a far cry from the usual baggy pants and hooded sweaters he wore.

Multiple DNA tests confirmed that Davidson indeed participated in the brutal crimes.  Autopsy details and pictures created vivid images of Newsom and Christian’s final moments which were so graphic that one lady fainted in the courtroom.

The images of the bodies found of Christian and Newsom are as some declare, Hellish.  Newsom was bound, gagged, shot in the head [along w/2x's in the back] and then burned.   Christian was hogtied, stuffed in garbage bags and then forced  into a garbage can where she suffocated.

This is all after the brutal torture they endured for hours before.

The controversial murder trial for Davidson will continue when the jury will return Thursday to hear proof in the penalty phase of the trial.  After the sentencing the court will resume with the final two participants, Vanessa Coleman and George Thomas.

Each will be tried separately as in the Davidson case.

FOR the last 2 and a half years a controversial murder trial has been building in our hometown of Knoxville.

The murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom has infuriated the public but the publicity from the national media has been rather low key for a variety of reasons no doubt due to mixed facts and the issue of race.

There’s no denying it anymore.  The ugly trial is now going forth in our hometown and is to be opened up for the public debate like nothing Knoxville has seen in a very long time.

We will warn you,  however, that the specifics of the case are shocking.  The details about the torture and murders of Christian and Newsom are extremely graphic and may be unsettling to some.  Hell, they’re unsettling to us.

It’s a brutal assault on your senses and imagination to try and understand why or how this event could have happened. Day One of the trials, which focuses on the defendant Letalvis Cobbins, began today.  Each of the defendants will be tried separately.
