New to DVD this week is the martial arts gore fest Ninja Assassin. Directed by V for Vendetta’s James McTeigue and staring Korean superstar Rain, Ninja Assassin is a story about a rogue-ninja taking on his former clan and avenging the death of the woman he loved…. or something close to that. Honestly, we don’t watch a movie like Ninja Assassin for the plot.

What we do expect from a movie called Ninja Assassin are action sequences, martial arts and people dying violent deaths. Ninja Assassin delivers on all of these counts and at a production value far beyond what you would expect from a movie actually called “Ninja Assassin“.

The biggest surprise is the sheer amount of carnage that takes place in the movie . There is more blood and severed body parts in this thing than you find in most horror movies these days. Although our favorite “Oh Wow!” moment was probably when we realized the head of the evil Ninja Clan was being played by non-other than Sho Kosugi.

Some of you long time ninja-geeks like us may remember Kosugi from his hey day in the 80’s, starring in classic ninja movies like: Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja III: The Domination.

All in all, if you’re the type of person who thinks they would enjoy a fast-paced martial arts movie with lots of blood and gore, you should check out Ninja Assassin. If you don’t think you’re this type of person, you might want to take a pass at this one, or go ahead and check it out anyway, you might find out something new about yourself.

But don’t worry.  The humorous Internet meme is being reincarnated. The newest Keyboard Cat takes it up a notch. Not only does he get his Harold Faltermeyer on, but he also tosses in some percussion. Nice.

NBC’s freshman sitcom “Community” pleasingly was renewed for a second season. The television show has fast become one of our favorite programs with its self-aware witty pop culture references and crazy characters. If you have ever spent time in a Community College than you owe it to yourself to check out this little gem.

Plus, it turns out that the creator of the show is evil which is just a bonus.

Also, Señor Chang is our hero.

And if you stay past to the end credits you will find some brilliant bits of video like this one of Abed and Troy being Bert and Ernie.
