Ninja Assassin Rains Pain on DVD

New to DVD this week is the martial arts gore fest Ninja Assassin. Directed by V for Vendetta’s James McTeigue and staring Korean superstar Rain, Ninja Assassin is a story about a rogue-ninja taking on his former clan and avenging the death of the woman he loved…. or something close to that. Honestly, we don’t watch a movie like Ninja Assassin for the plot.

What we do expect from a movie called Ninja Assassin are action sequences, martial arts and people dying violent deaths. Ninja Assassin delivers on all of these counts and at a production value far beyond what you would expect from a movie actually called “Ninja Assassin“.

The biggest surprise is the sheer amount of carnage that takes place in the movie . There is more blood and severed body parts in this thing than you find in most horror movies these days. Although our favorite “Oh Wow!” moment was probably when we realized the head of the evil Ninja Clan was being played by non-other than Sho Kosugi.

Some of you long time ninja-geeks like us may remember Kosugi from his hey day in the 80’s, starring in classic ninja movies like: Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja III: The Domination.

All in all, if you’re the type of person who thinks they would enjoy a fast-paced martial arts movie with lots of blood and gore, you should check out Ninja Assassin. If you don’t think you’re this type of person, you might want to take a pass at this one, or go ahead and check it out anyway, you might find out something new about yourself.

Predators New Movie Trailer

Sweet! Director Robert Rodriguez has helped bring about a new version of the fantastic Predators saga. The 1987 Predator movie is one of our all-time favorites. The sequel was less than stellar and don’t even get us started on the piece-of-crap AVP movies.

Now, the 2010 Predators movie will feature a storyline centered after the original movie and (thankfully) bypassing the rest of the movies. And there’s a cast of actors who know what they are doing with Lawrence Fishburn and Adrien Brody star as a group of humans trapped on a planet that appears to be a game preserve for the Predators.

The Predators movie is due out in theaters July 7th and even though Robert Rodriguez is attached to the movie, he did not direct this one. Hungarian-American director Nimród Antal is in the directors chair. Take a look at the trailer below to see what you think.

The Decline of Sports

An account of the gradual corruption of sports in America from the movie BASEketball. Fans of South Park will know the movie as one of the few films that Matt and Trey did as actors and not animators.

Yes, El Guapo. A Plethora of Pinatas

El Guapo (Alfonso Arau) and Jefe (Tony Plana) argue about the meaning of the word “plethora” until Jefe cleverly changes the subject to Carmen.

Psych’s Detective Lassiter Was a Psychic

Psych castWe’re fans of the quirky television show “Psych” and were rather pleased when we came across this little video clip from the 1997 super-awesome Neil Patrick Harris movie “Starship Troopers” and saw Det. Lassiter. We’re also a little sad we didn’t see it earlier.

About 40 seconds into this great clip about the “Citizen Rule: People Making a Better Tomorrow” propaganda bit you will see a psychic who looks a lot like Detective Dipstick.

Yep, sure enough that’s Timothy Omundson, the psychic-despising cop from “Psych,” helping you get in touch with your inner psychic.

Sweet! New TRON Legacy Trailer

Tron

Jeff Bridges really let himself go

We have some good news and some bad news for you peeps. First, the good news. Disney has released the newest trailer for the upcoming TRON sequel and it looks great.

TRON Legacy” follows up the groundbreaking original movie from 1982. In “TRON,” Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) gets sucked into a virtual world where his life is on the line. The movie broke technical ground with extensive CG effects for the time and also spawned various video games and comics.

Now the bad news. The movie, which is coming out in 3-D and IMAX, doesn’t hit theaters until mid December. F@#k! And yes, that is Olivia Wilde up there in the latex body suit. Yeah!

Why Point Break is the Best Movie Ever. Reason #283

Here's a clip from "The Hurt Locker"

The Hurt Locker : The Way You Don’t Die

Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron were married once and their love child was FBI Special Agent Johnny Utah.

We just wanted to point that out!

Point Break Scene: Chasing Ronnie -Johnny (Keanu Reeves) chases Bodhi (Patrick Swayze), but can’t bring himself to shoot him.

Sweet! New Iron Man 2 Trailer

Iron Man Three Way

Robert Downey, Jr. was on the Jimmy Kimmel Show last night after the Oscars and he helped debut the new trailer for Iron Man 2. We have a lot of excitement about the movie (releases in theaters May 7th) and the latest trailer for the flick doesn’t disappoint.

The latest promo for the film features more footage from the full cast including Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson showing off her WWE moves.

For us, the most notable part is the handy travel-size Iron Man suit that Tony Stark pops out at the end.

Will “Kick Ass” Really Kick Ass?

Coming to theaters this April is the comic book inspired film Kick Ass. On initial viewing of the theatrical trailer, one may be inclined to think that the movie looks very much like a Nickelodeon/Disney tween actioner similar to a Sky High. But don’t let that fool you. If you look closer, you may notice that the film is actually rated R and not something to let your teen just run off to all willy nilly. Also upon a brief examination of the internets, one can find the R-rated trailer that has been released and a clip from the movie of Nicholas Cage shooting his daughter. (Both of which are below to save you that search) The former provides plenty of blood, language and action in the form of a 12 year old vigilante called Hit Girl and the latter showcases a dysfunctional family dynamic and sets a darkly comedic tone.

So what does this mean as far as the watchability of the film is concerned?

Well the tween action/comedy not really worth checking out that the theatrical trailer makes it look like, it is not. A hyper-violent superhero action film , painted in blood splatters and highlighted with darkly comedic moments, that may just be worth a pop into the ol’ theatre, it just may be.

What is known for sure is that the film is produced by Tyler Durden’s company Plan B Entertainment, and we all know Tyler’s always right (Right?); It’s also being directed by Matthew Vaughn whose previous two directorial efforts are the Neil Gaiman inspired “Stardust” and the British crime tale known as “Layer Cake”. Oddly enough “Kick Ass” fits into his list of directorial credentials quite nicely, as it appears to be an odd conglomeration of both his previous movies’ styles, with a couple of injections of adrenaline mixed in for flavor. Add to this the comic book source material was penned by Mark Millar, whose comic book highlights include: Superman: Red Son, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Wanted and Marvel Knights Spider-Man; and you got the possibility of a film that may actually kick some ass.

If you’re still on the fence about whether or not you want to see the film, but are interested enough to dig a little deeper, check out the movie’s website kickass-themovie.com

Christoph Waltz Wins Oscar for Inglourious Basterds

Christoph Waltz walked home Sunday night with an Oscar for his fantastic performance as the Jew Hunter from “Inglourious Basterds.” Here’s one of our favorite scenes from the movie as Col. Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) explains how he finds hiding Jews.
