Thomas’ Retro Video of the Week : Wreckx-n-Effect
Check baby, check….
Thomas loves his Old School rap and if you ever go on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and you get asked to name the original members of NWA than Thomas should be your lifeline.
You will not go home empty handed on that question.
This week, the Retro Video comes to us from the rump shakers of Wreckx-n-Effect, a New Jack Swing Hip-Hop group who had the multi-platinum hit “Rump Shaker” in 1992. The video is awesome. The song is awesome. And yes, there are a lot of ladies shaking their rump for you.
Goodbye 2009 and Good Riddance
One of the craziest years on our books is over. Finally. Someone tap 2009 on the shoulder because it’s time to come out of the game. As the world gathers this week to celebrate the beginning of the new decade we are wondering about the status of our world.
Will our economy bounce back? Will vampire movies still be run into the ground? Will Tiger Woods recover? These are just some of the things on our mind as we take a look back at some of the best and worst of 2009 and reflect.
Maybe it’s the moonshine, but we’re feeling a little nostalgic.
We’d like to point out that the movie 2010 with Roy Scheider was full of crap. We are no where near the ability to cruise around the moons of Jupiter much less have crazy-ass computers going on killing sprees or have the technology to give John Lithgow a full head of hair.
It’s all a crock!
Since we can’t go into space or fly around the city in our hovercar or personal jet pack, we are forced to stay here on Earth and take the best that society has to offer. And by society we mean the Internet. Pop culture had a big year in 2009 and here’s some of the highlights over the last 12 months.
December 2009: Japanese Nurse Prank
November 2009: And the Tiger Woods Scandal Begins
October 2009: Five Reasons Chicago Was Rejected For 2016 Olympic Games
September 2009: Rejected Titles of Sarah Palins New Book
August 2009: From Hell: Christian-Newsom Murder Trial Begins In Knoxville
July 2009: Why is Captain Kirk Climbing a Mountain?
June 2009: 5 Best Zach Galifianakis Moments
May 2009: Ferris Bueller Fight Club Theory: You Sir Just Blew My Mind
April 2009: Great Japanese Fluorescent Light Fights
March 2009: Padma Lakshmi Sexy Hardee’s Burger Commercial
February 2009: Lily Allen Performing in Blue Lingerie
January 2009: Johnny Knoxville detained for inert grenade at airport
Gift Cards are Unfair
The only problem with giving Gift Cards is that they have a specific dollar amount attached to them.
It’s a lot like leaving the price sticker on a gift.
The person knows how much you spent on them. And then we always felt bad when giving a gift card to someone and then they give us a gift card in return but it’s for a much larger value.

A Day Off
We’re gonna take a day off to get caught up with our baglog of Netflix movies as well as the new “Star Trek” movie that’s out on Blu-Ray today.
The good news is that the Tennessee Vols men’s and women’s basketball team won Tuesday night as Bruce Pearl tries to get closer to 100 wins.
The bad news is that another Tennessee Vols football player got arrested. Tennessee freshman defensive back Nyshier Oliver was charged with shoplifting. Congratulations, idiot. You are going to lose a scholarship worth thousands for a shitty brown shirt worth $110.
Maybe they should teach some better math classes for these Freshmen so they can see how much $ they are pissing away. Maybe an ethics class at the least.
Anyway, enjoy the day off with Zach Galifianakis and his “Between Two Ferns.” This episode features Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter.

New Season of Venture Bros. Starts Tonight
Dave and Thomas’s favorite cartoon returns to Adult Swim tonight for a new season of venturific fun and excitement. The guys are a’giddy with anticipation as the new season draws closer, in the hopes that the answers to their questions from last season will be revealed. The Secret City Film Festival Begins This Weekend
It’s almost that time in Oak Ridge, TN again. The Secret City Film Fest is set to start this weekend. Filmmakers will gather, movies will be shown, viewers will “ooh and ahhh” in the appropriate places (usually), and a layer of B.S. will cover the floors as filmmakers and film fans mingle and discuss their projects, both past and future. It’s one of the funnest events in all of East Tennessee, and you know Dave and Thomas are going to be there.
In fact, Dave and Thomas enjoy the festival so much, this year they are sponsoring a reception with their buddies, the Juvenile Minds. This quasi-prestigious event will follow a special screening of the award winning, East Tennessee produced film, That Evening Sun, on Friday the 9th. So feel free to join Dave and Thomas for barbecue and beer at the Secret City Film Fest and if you don’t care for D&T check out the other events at the festival. There are many films, panels, workshops and events at the festival that are worth checking out. For more information on the Secret City Film Festival check out their website.
If you’re interested in winning a couple of free all-festival passes, check out the Dave and Thomas SCFF competition.
Win Free Passes To The Secret City Film Fest
If you like independent movies and you plan on being in the Oak Ridge area this weekend, today could be your lucky day! When the classy fellows at Juvenile Minds came out of their PBR induced comas yesterday, they noticed they had mistakenly stol….err “procured” two extra full passes to the Secret City Film Fest. Plagued by the dilemma of what to do with these unexpected gifts, the Juvenile Minds decided they should probably get rid of them as soon as possible. Needing a couple of suckers to pawn the tickets off on, they immediately thought of Dave and Thomas, and of course Dave and Thomas said yes.

So we here at Dave and Thomas are passing on the savings on to one lucky winner. For your chance to win two free passes to the Oak Ridge Secret City Film Fest, just become a fan of Juvenile Minds on Facebook and post the words “Pork Rinds Rock!” on the Juvenile Minds wall. If you do this you will automatically be eligible to win 2 free passes in a no holds barred super drawing to be held on Wednesday Night Oct. 7th. Registration ends on Wednesday at 8pm EST. The winner will be announced at 9pm EST.
