I don’t know what they’re smoking up there in the headquarters at Netflix but I wish instead of changing things for the bad that they would just pass around the drugs. The once infallible media company lost millions of customers and saw its stock plunge this summer after a series of miscalculated errors.
The biggest bonehead mistake was splitting up Netflix into 2, new companies. Netflix would now only be streaming and the DVD mail-order section would become Qwikster. [see Netflix parody video] Now customers could pay for 2 different things with 2 different websites to track and maintain.
Kids, this is why they invented testing new ideas out on control groups first.
The Netflix/Qwikster debacle will now go down in history as one of the bigger corporate blunders right up there next to another big red company. If you are old enough, and I realize some of you are not, there was a time when the Coke company had a similar brain fart.
The idea was to bring out a new version of the loved Coke drink. New Coke was reformulated in 1985 by The Coca-Cola Company to replace the original formula of its flagship soft drink, Coca-Cola. New Coke originally had no separate name of its own, but was simply known as “the new taste of Coca-Cola” until 1992 when it was renamed Coca-Cola II.
Why Coca-Cola II stuck around for so long I’ll never know. Why they added “II” to the end is also mind-boggling. It sounds like a sequel and we all know that sequels in the 80′s were always watered down versions of the original movie. Except ‘Breakin’.’
‘Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo’ is awesome.
With the angered customers using social media to mock and openly chastise Netflix the company reversed its position and has now decided to ditch the Qwikster. The blunder isn’t big enough to kill the company but the current leadership might be. Hopefully they will get their act together and stop messing around with Netflix and do the only thing everyone really wants, add the good stuff to the streaming members.
