I’m not sure what it is about FIFA that they do not want to institute some sort of technology like video replays for the officials. This years World Cup has been a disaster for the refs with numerous game-changing bad calls including non-goals that everyone in the stadium can see.
It’s been said that FIFA wants to keep the element of human decisions instead of slowing down the game with video replay. That arguemnt of course is full of shit as they easily allow diving players to burn clock time or various other time wasters like subbing in players in the final minute when your ahead with the player at the other end of the field who walks to the sideline and takes his time to shake hands and tie his shoes.
If you can add extra time for players pretending to be injured you can add a few extra minutes for replays. To put it into perspective, the refs blow offsides and goal calls but are on the sock situation. Yes, they stopped the game and sent this player to the sidelines to change his sock colors since they didn’t match. He ended up coloring them in with a marker.
Don’t believe me? Here’s the video.
I like soccer but to have the biggest matches in the world decided by blind refs is outrageous. To further add insult to injury, FIFA has announced they will censor or ban big-screen replays in the stadium now to cover up their bad refs. who are unable to keep up with the action of the game.
That’s along the lines of BP banning photoographers and journalists from the beach to see the oil spill disaster. We all know what’s going on. Why cover it up and not improve it?
That being said, I’m rooting for Paraguay since I firmly believe they have the best fans.
