cargo-shipIf you are one of the many Apple fans anticipating your new iPad in the next few weeks you will have to wait 4 more months.  That is because a Chinese shipping container headed toward the United States did not survive a tropical storm on the trip and sank.

The Chinese ship Wooton Fu was lost at sea Saturday about 900 southeast of Los Angeles.  Also lost was the cargo of 350,000 Apple iPads expected in stores next week.  With pre-orders already filled, Apple was expecting a huge crowd of people in the coming weeks to purchase the new gadget and the sudden loss of all of the available iPads left Apple scrambling.

A website has been set up by Apple to help those grieving about the loss of their new iPad.  So far, over 97,000 people have signed into the support group to express grief, sorrow, and anger at the situation.

The sinking of the container ship is estimated to lose around $47,000,000.  Almost all of the ship and the container cargo of iPads were insured but the loss of not having the iPad on shelves in April may never be replaced.

Apple claims that they are working with their Asian factories to insure that production increases to get the iPad back on track and hopefully in the hands of consumers in just a few months.

That news is not enough for some customers, though. Several people have already gathered together to file a class-action lawsuit against Apple for their own damages at not receiving the iPad in time.  Some ever resorted to calling in death threats to local Apple Stores which has left employees shaken.

The Apple iPad is now on schedule to be available this September and all pre-orders will be honored.

Also of note, 22 crew members died when the ship overturned.
