After much rumor and speculation it looks like Chris Evans (best known as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch from the Fantastic Four franchise) will play Captain America in the new movie The First Avenger: Captain America, set to be released in July 2011. Mr. Evans snags the role amidst rumors of such actors as Channing Tatum, Sebastian Stan, Jon Hamm, Will Smith, John Krasinski, and Matt Damon all being considered at one time or another (some of those being wilder speculations than others). Evans will be squaring off against Hugo Weaving, who will play nefarious Nazi, Red Skull, in what is one more step for Marvel towards an actual Avengers movie.


We find it odd that an actor who already portrays a Marvel superhero should be picked to play the Captain, but I guess that just means he has the superhero look. Although we’re leaving the theater if he screams “Flame On” while wearing the red, white & blue…..or on second thought, we might just stick around until he throws the flaming shield. That’d be pretty cool.
