That’s because this clip is from the Royal Feline Swimming Academy teaching cats to swim. We get this sketch from the 1979 special Mr. Mike’s Mondo Video.

Mr. Mike’s Mondo Video was a spoof of the controversial 1962 documentary Mondo Cane, showing people doing weird stunts. Kinda like Jackass does today. It stared the first head writer of Saturday Night Live, Michael O’Donoghue, who also was in the first sketch of the show [see below]

If you’re looking to send Mr. Mondo a dirty letter because he’s tossing cats into a pool, you don’t have to worry. Mike died in 1994
