Michael David Barrett – Alleged Erin Andrews of ESPN Peeping Tom Arrested!

ESPN analyst Erin Andrews can hopefully rest a little easier now that her stalker has been arrested. After some videos of Andrews surfaced on the ‘net featuring the blond bombshell in the buff, many have wondered who [and how] the videos got made.

Turns out that super perv Michael David Barrett is being pinned for the crime and you know it’s bad because the press is being given his full, legal name.

Usually we reserve the middle name addition for political assassins and serial killers getting the chair.

Of course, after ESPN’s lawyers get done with Barrett we bet he wishes he’d only get off with the chair.

[Via Chicago Breaking News] Barrett, 47, was arrested Friday at O’Hare International Airport, after returning from Buffalo. He was named in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court Los Angeles, accused of altering peepholes in hotel room doors so he could shoot video of Andrews.

Seven of the eight videos, which officials believe were taken with a cellphone camera, appear to have been shot in a hotel room that the victim identified as the Marriott Nashville at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee in September 2008, according to the FBI affidavit.

Hotel records indicate Barrett specifically requested a room next to the one Andrews was staying in, and was given one, according to the FBI.

The agency said that the peephole in the door to the victim’s room had been altered and that the accused had requested and received a room next door to the one occupied by the victim.

The door’s peephole, which is made up of two pieces screwed into each other, had apparently been removed and shortened, according to the affidavit; the altered peephole showed marks that indicated it had been sawed through. The affidavit also said that shortening the length of one of the peephole’s eyepiece, “it could be removed quickly and easily from the door without much noise.”

According to the affidavit, Barrett contacted TMZ.com from a Yahoo e-mail address, offering to sell the videos on January 28 and 29. That gossip Web site, based out of Los Angeles where the charges were filed, contacted Andrews’ representatives, who were given information from those e-mails that included the e-mail address.

“Our understanding is that TMZ was offered these videos for sale and properly declined to engage in that type of transaction, for which TMZ deserves commendation. other outlets ran those videos,” Andrews’ attorney Marshall Grossman of Los Angeles, said in an interview late Friday with the Tribune. “Many websites posted them.”

The first videos of Andrews were posted on Google’s video Web site in February through an e-mail account tied to Barrett, according to the FBI. The videos also were posted a few days later to a pornography Web site, using a different account, according to the FBI.

Andrews learned of the videos when she was in Los Angeles on July 16, according to the FBI affidavit. Andrews was in Los Angeles for the ESPY awards at that time, Grossman said.

The night of the awards, “She … received a call from a friend who told her that videos of her in the nude were on the Internet,” he said. “She did not believe it because she has never knowingly had any photographs or videos of her in the nude. She went online and saw them and that’s she found out.”
