You would think that with living with the Cubs for so many years that the citizens of Chicago would be used to disappointment.
However, the recent decision of the International Olympic Committee [IOC] to not pick the Windy City for the 2016 Games has to hurt. That and the fact Chicago was the first city eliminated even after President Obama and Oprah publicly campaigned for their hometown.
It’s hard to say where the city went wrong [recent YouTube videos of kids beating honor students to death with 2x4's surely didn't help] but with granting Rio the Games of 2016 they become the first city in South America to host the events. Congrats to Rio for that accomplishment.
Chicago was pushing itself to the IOC as an eclectic city and the home of the Blues with an expandable infrastructure that could graciously host the Games.
Rio sent IOC members invitations to Carnival. And also some pictures of topless women in thongs on the white beaches of Rio for good measure. We’re thinking the decision was made pretty quick.
When it comes down to it, both cities are crime riddled, political quagmires that would require a lot of work to get straight by 2016.
Here’s a look at Five Reasons Chicago Lost the Olympics:
5) Citizen Factor
Rio + Thong Bikinis = Carnival!
Chicago + Thong Bikinis = ugghhh!
4) Chicago Mayor Daley ideas to privatize Olympics frowned upon.
3) Many IOC members never got over the renaming of the Sears Tower.
2) Proposed events of Money Laundering, 100-meter Pothole Freestyle and using Federal Informants as archery targets not acceptable as Olympic events.
1) Admittedly, Coruptzy, the Chicago Olympic mascot designed by former Governor Rod Blagojevich, scared off a few IOC members.

I live near Chicago. Honestly, I am so glad Chicago did not get chosen. Illinois is so broke and messed up due to the recession; we need to focus on problems that are happening now and not rushing into all this meaningless construction for the Olympics. Rio already has a lot of olympic facilities built.
