One of our generation’s biggest influences has passed away. Movie writer and director John Hughes passed away in New York City at the age of 58 from an apparent heart attack.
Hughes is the man who wrote ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation,’ ‘Mr. Mom’ and ‘Natonal Lampoon’s European Vacation.’ He also wrote and/or directed ’16 Candles,’ ‘The Breakfast Club,’ ‘Ferris Buellers Day Off,’ ‘Uncle Buck,’ Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,’ ‘Home Alone,’ ‘The Great Outdoors’ and ‘Weird Science.’
Hughes’ ensemble comedies helped make stars out of Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy and many other young performers. He also scripted the phenomenally popular “Home Alone,” which made little-known Macaulay Culkin a sensation
