observe-report-wbfl-rogen-02Love him or hate him, Seth Rogan is back. Rogan has finally put aside the pot smoking couch potato character to take a roll as a mall cop with an agenda.

Wait…? We think Kevin James already did that.

Rogan and director Jody Hill will have to convince people to return to the theater for another Mall Cop flick but we bet after a quick view of the OBSERVE AND REPORT Red Band Trailer (below) that you’ll see they are aiming for the Judd Apatow crowd.

The flick is directed by the relative newbie Hill (THE FOOT FIST WAY) but is gathering buzz.  Early screenings have painted OBSERVE AND REPORT as a very dark comedy with some rather uncomfortable jokes.  Think more Billy Bob Thorton in BAD SANTA rather than Rogan in SUPERBAD and you get the picture.

OBSERVE AND REPORT is about a bi-polar mall security guard, Ronnie Barnhardt, who is called into action to stop a flasher from turning shopper’s paradise into his personal peep show. But when Barnhardt can’t bring the culprit to justice, a surly police detective (Ray Liotta) is recruited to close the case.

What grabbed our attention is that there is suppossedly a fight scene referencing the South Korean director Park Chan-wook classic OLDBOY Hammer/Hallway scene. Here is that scene. Enjoy:
