Lady Vol Candace Parker WNBA Draft Pick #1 for L.A. Sparks
First the National Title. Now the #1 Draft Pick. UT Lady Vol Candace Parker is having a nice week. After taking on Stanford with a hurt shoulder (merely a flesh wound!!) and helping Tennessee to their second straight National Title, Parker became the WNBA’s #1 pick by the L.A. Sparks the very next day.
Parker still had a year left on her eligibility with UT but opted for the big leagues instead of her senior year. So, that brings us to the WNBA’s salaries. While they are not as outrageuous as their counterpart NBA, the money is becoming more available each year in the women’s league.
“According to the agreement signed in 2003, WNBA players who had up to three years of experience were capped at $42,000.By comparison, $385,277 was the minimum salary of an NBA rookie. WNBA rookies earned $30,000 per year. The maximum salary for a WNBA player in 2007 was $100,000.
In 2004, the players on the team that wins the WNBA championship each get a bonus of $10,000. Players on the runner-up team each get $5,000.
In 2007, the WNBA salary cap will be $728,000.” (source)
We wish Candace Parker a great career in the WNBA and would like to thank her for her contribution to the Lady Vols (along with all her teammates) for a great couple of seasons.

We are sure going to miss her!
